A podcast that will make you laugh and make you think.
"Try things out. Ask for feedback. Adjust if necessary."
Today Biff, Lucky & Mr Fun, the creator of Talk About with Biff, Lucky and Mr. Fun share their story of Comedy podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
The three of us have known each other since college. We are successful businessmen. We are family men. We are well traveled and we have great stories. Many that will make you laugh and many that will make you think. We cover topical things along with off-beat stories. And one of our hosts (Mr. Fun) shares jokes throughout. We appeal to a cross section of listeners from peers, to women to young adults that have found us.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Our podcast started in January 2023 and, like many, was born out of a conversation between the three of us. And then I had the idea to record us as I had been wanting to try my hand at podcasting. And while we knew we had very good chemistry, we have found out that we each have an innate skill that we bring to the podcast. I'm the producer and host. Lucky is the "news" person. Mr. Fun is a joke teller and humorist.
The goals for the podcast have been modest. I was confident we would appeal to a cross-section of people and that we would be entertaining so I just wanted to get it out there each week. We do have one sponsor (Scotty's Vodka) and we have music that people have wanted us to play as our intro and outro.
We are a "hit record" podcast as we go straight through for 45 or so minutes. And proudly, most episodes have no edits.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We record and release weekly and haven't missed a week yet since January of 2023. Which is impressive as this is in addition to our full time jobs. Recording is typically Sunday with a 5 am EST release on Monday. If we need to do remote recording we will. We will also shift it a day or two if needed for personal schedules. All told, we spend about two hours doing a production meeting and recording.
And post production to check for sound quality, indexing of content and uploading takes another 90 minutes or so.
This is all self-funded and all in it's about $500/annually (for now).
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Only sponsorship we have is with Scotty's Vodka out of Frederick, Maryland and I'd call it more of a gift in kind. We promote his business as he is trying to grow it and he provides us with Vodka. This sponsorship was not tied to downloads.
We are trying to grow the podcast. Depending upon who you believe (Apple vs. Buzzsprout) we get about 800-1000 downloads per month.
Personally I know we have a good podcast and I'd like to see if we can take it to the next level as I know people enjoy it. My hosts feel the same way and if we can make it revenue producing, the sky's the limit for all of us. . It has also brought us much closer together and our pre-production discussions, often with dinner, are great sessions.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I record on a Zoom P8. Microphones are ZDM-1. It's a good set up as the recording quality is good wherever we are (probably have recorded in over half a dozen different locations). I edit the podcast on NCH Wavepad Editor. Which I like a lot. Then I upload it to Buzzsprout for distribution. From a website standpoint I just moved from Squarespace to Podpage and that has helped tremendously as it was most important to get an easy to use service for us at this time.
From an interview standpoint we have done both in person and remote (via Teams or Zoom). I'm looking at Riverside FM if we can get more remote interviews.
We are also doing location recordings and have been asked to do a monthly show at a local brewery.
► How do you market your show?
We are very basic. IG, Facebook, Twitter, email. And we are obviously on all of the big platforms... Apple, Spotify, Amazon, Google. The biggest acquisition is from Apple and that is circa 65%.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Just do it. Get the reps in.
Try things out. Ask for feedback. Adjust if necessary.
As I'm learning, if you want to grow it you're going to have to use video (which we haven't done much of) and also to spend some money.
