Today LA, the creator of Perpetrator Unknown shares his story of true crime podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
'Perpetrator Unknown' is a true crime, serialized podcast about unsolved cases where the perpetrator or perpetrators remain unknown. Season One explores a series of heinous crimes that all originated in 2007 at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton, Florida. The brutal murders of two women and a child, as well as the chilling abduction of a mother and toddler, remain unsolved to this day.
While I may not be an expert in the podcasting realm, I aim to create a space where listeners can immerse themselves in intriguing mysteries, all while fostering a sense of empathy and compassion for those affected by these tragic events.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
As a longtime true crime aficionado, I've immersed myself in the genre for years—long before it gained mainstream popularity. While I've been an avid podcast consumer, my decision to delve into the stories of the Town Center Mall victims was driven by a deep desire to see these cold cases finally solved. My goal is to reignite interest, sparking public conversations about these crimes and, ultimately, delivering justice for the innocent victims and their grieving families.
Each case is undeniably horrific, and the victims' innocence adds to the tragedy. Despite closely following these cases for the past 16 years, I dedicated months to extensive research and scriptwriting. The podcast officially launched on December 12, 2023, marking the 16th anniversary of the brutal murders of Nancy and Joey Bochicchio—a mother and her seven-year-old daughter. They were the last victims, tragically discovered bound and lifeless from gunshot wounds in the backseat of their still-running vehicle at the Town Center Mall.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Balancing a full-time career with podcasting, I allocate weekends and some evenings to this passion project. The research and writing, though demanding, don't feel like work because of my genuine enjoyment and commitment. When I face challenges, I keep the end goal in mind, driven by the desire to contribute to solving these cases. Opting to release the entire seven-episode series at once was a strategic decision, allowing me to maintain control and ensure the highest quality.
Funding the podcast independently, I've invested time and resources to create a comprehensive series that I believe will make a meaningful impact.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
While 'Perpetrator Unknown' has been a self-funded passion project thus far, I'm open to the possibility of accepting sponsorships in the future. As the podcast continues to grow, potential sponsorships could provide additional resources to enhance the production quality and reach of the series. Any sponsorships will be carefully chosen to align with the podcast's values, and my priority remains delivering compelling, independent storytelling. I am grateful for the opportunity to embark on this journey, bringing attention to these unsolved cases, and I'm excited about the potential for 'Perpetrator Unknown' to evolve and make an even greater impact with other cases as well.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I utilize standard podcasting equipment, featuring the Shure MV7 podcasting microphone paired with Sennheiser headphones. Given the narrative style of my episodes, I haven't found the need to record interviews directly. This setup ensures a clear and professional audio experience for my audience.
► How do you market your show?
This podcast is in its early stages, and I'm still navigating the ins and outs. Currently, you can find me on Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok. Additionally, I'm exploring advertising opportunities on other podcasts. Stay tuned for updates as I learn and grow in this exciting journey!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Creating a podcast is more challenging than it might seem! Despite the substantial workload, the rewards can be truly fulfilling. It's crucial to find your niche and tap into your passion, making the entire process a labor of love.
