A travel and lifestyle podcast that serves as your weekly reminder to be more you.
"...my advice is to choose a theme or topic for your show that genuinely excites you, something you could talk about forever."
Today Ava Beilke, the creator of MORE with Ava Beilke shares her story of Places & Travel podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Ava Beilke, I am a strategic social media consultant on a mission to bring heart back to social media and the world at large. As a part-time digital nomad, I live out my work-from-anywhere dreams to do what I love most, travel. My show, MORE with Ava Beilke, is a travel and lifestyle podcast that serves as your weekly reminder to be more you. I love exploring what the world has to offer, and sharing the things that make me more me so you can discover a thing or two to make you more you. Weekly episodes feature exciting travel destinations, inspiring guests, and rich-bixch lifestyle tips to live your best life. In other words, we’re Manifesting Original Rich-Bixch Experiences.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast because I wanted a creative outlet to channel my passion for travel and inspire others to embrace travel experiences. Being well-traveled is a key step towards creating a more peaceful, loving, and understanding world.
When it comes to how I started the podcast, I invested time upfront defining my vision for the show: the name, the topic, the brand vibe, the overall objective. Once I had these anchoring elements in place, it was very much a google-as-you-go situation. First, I got a microphone, and then I searched ‘how to record a podcast’ and it’s been a learning journey every step of the way.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Hosting and producing a weekly podcast requires discipline. In order to prioritize the podcast, I have time blocked on my calendar for recording and editing at the same time each week, and dedicate around 15 total hours per week to creating and sharing my show. I view the podcast as an extension of my brand, business, and it’s one of my main sources of marketing, so I’m happy to make the investment each week.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
There’s so much to gain from podcasting. For me, it’s a creative outlet to share the information I’ve gathered, tell fun stories, and inspire others to explore the world. It’s also been an incredible source of community – birds of a feather flock together – it’s been so fun to watch my community of listeners grow.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
My podcasting process typically involves spending time each week thinking about topics of conversation, loosely outlining what I’d like to share, recording the episode in Riverside, editing the episode in GarageBand, and then scheduling it to publish every Wednesday. In the episodes where I do travel reviews, those require a bit more planning when it comes to travel arrangements and accommodations. It’s totally worth it though because exploring destinations to find top hotel, restaurant, and shopping recommendations to share with my listeners is the best! I take my job of *procuring the vibe* very seriously.
► How do you market your show?
When it comes to marketing MORE with Ava Beilke, I have a website for the show in addition to Instagram and YouTube. I cross-promote the podcast on my personal social media channels and within my business newsletters. I also largely depend on word-of-mouth marketing, trusted recommendations from my listeners, to help spread the word. Whether it’s telling a friend about the show, leaving a podcast review, or re-sharing a social media post, these small actions make a big difference for independent podcasts.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you are a new podcaster or are considering creating a podcast, my advice is to choose a theme or topic for your show that genuinely excites you, something you could talk about forever. Podcasts are content-intensive and you want to choose something sustainable for months or years into the future.
