A weekly travel podcast hosted by diehard backpackers, Adam and Alun. Broadcasting from across the globe.
"You need to have something to say!"
Today Adam and Alun, the creators of TRIPOLOGY: The Travel Podcast share their story of Places & Travel podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
TRIPOLOGY is a weekly travel podcast that aims to encourage people to quit their lives in search of adventure!
The show is loaded with extraordinary travel stories, inspirational guests, backpacking tips and travel advice.
We have a combined 20 years of backpacking experience, having visited nearly 100 countries in the last decade. We're establishing a global community of people who want to do the same!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We're both huge podcast fans, and we think that this medium is the absolute best for establishing a connection with a committed audience. At the end of the day, the reason we started a podcast was to help other people escape mundanity and realize their potential on the road... for that, we need to be able to speak to them directly.
So, nearly two years ago, we set up a couple of mics and began shouting into the void....
Before long, people started tuning in, and a community of TRIPOLOGISTS was born.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release an episode of TRIPOLOGY each and every week.
Because we're constantly on the road, these can sometimes be recorded remotely, and sometimes in person. It depends on the form that our travels are taking at that time. We never want the podcast to be an obstacle to travelling the way we always have.
Just like our travels, the podcast is entirely self-funded. We often take part in volunteering activities to help make our travel less expensive... but ultimately we live very cheaply!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
From the very start of the podcast, we took it very seriously... It was never going to be a hobby for us, and we wanted it to do justice to our life's work. i.e. a decade spent on the road.
We currently have about 50k downloads a month, and we're actively looking for sponsorship so we can keep going!
The podcast has been an excellent experience so far, and we could never imagine stopping, for any reason.

► How does your podcasting process look like?
Because we both pack very lightly, our equipment is minimalist too!
We record using two small Samson GO mics fitted onto custom stands, and lots of the audio quality is cleaned up in post-production. I think this makes us somewhat unique in the podcasting world...
Instead of asking the question 'How can we get the best sound?' we have to ask 'What equipment is SMALL enough, and GOOD enough, that we can make it work in our everyday carry?'
► How do you market your show?
Our main source of listenership has been through promoting the show with viral reels on instagram. It's a different type of content, but it helps our listeners see more of our personality!
A good chunk of our audience comes from Castbox- we love that platform, and they've been very supportive of the show!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
You need to have something to say!
You need to believe wholeheartedly that you have something to add to the space in which you're trying to provide a contribution.
You should establish a niche community which you feel you can relate to, and try to talk to them as directly as possible.
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
