Deep dive into all things money and markets
"constantly researching other podcasts and talking to other podcasts for tips and know-how."
Today Dick Bove & Mathew Van Alstyne & John Aidan Byrne, the creators of ODEON CAPITAL CONVERSATIONS share their story of making the business news podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
We are a duo of Wall Street professionals, DICK BOVE and MAT VAN ALSTYNE, and one media veteran, JOHN AIDAN BYRNE. A trio, in fact! Our Wall Street pair, DICK and MAT, and media person, JOHN, have strong and informed opinions on all things money and markets with expert knowledge on a panoply of topics from the Federal Reserve and the money supply to interest rates, inflation, employment and much more. A must listen to podcast for professionals and consumers on Wall Street and Main Street. Professionals on Wall Street will learn in absolutely refreshing and thrilling detail what is happening in the equity, bond, commodity and other markets against the backdrop of global economic, political and social events. We cover banking, brokerage, institutional investments and more. Our listeners, in fact, run the gamut: institutional investors, retail investors, bankers, wealth managers, portfolio managers and every day consumers interested in personal finance and the ordinary happenings of the markets.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We started this podcast to share the rich throve of information available from our Wall Street pair. One is a famed bank industry analyst, DICK BOVE, with decades of experience and with a unique much sought after take on the Street. The podcast is a platform for him to provide long form commentary. The second Wall Street pro, MAT VAN ALSTYNE, is a high-level executive and co-founder of his own successful Wall Street firm. The three of us listen to a lot of podcasts and concluded there is a big opening for our own podcast. The initial goals were to successfully launch on a weekly basis, and to find a flow and balance we felt would work for our audience and our work schedules. We launched the podcast earlier this year with several months of preparation.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The podcast is released every Tuesday evening, after we record the episode earlier in the day. JOHN produces and edits and releases the podcast. JOHN is a media man and this task is second nature to him.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do not accept sponsorship for our podcast.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Our podcast is a unique three-person talk show on Wall Street and the markets driven by the unique research work published by DICK BOVE. Thus, we will examine and discuss the research. We prepare as well in advance as possible by sharing notes, reviewing developments in the markets. Much of the content of course is driven by the research but we like to also think outside the box and introduce topics—some controversial—that will give our listeners pause for thought.
► How do you market your show?
Our listens can find us on Apple, Google, Spotify and More. We frequently post news about the podcast on social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. We are also open to cross promotions. We have also started livestreaming via a cross-promotional opportunity with a top rated podcast.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Hosting a 3-person podcast had a learning curve since each participant has their own unique style and personality. We have learned to settle on a formula that makes each episode flow more smoothly, and with energy and gusto. We are constantly researching other podcasts and talking to other podcasters for tips and know-how.
