The podcast guiding you through Airbnb investing for financial freedom
"If you are considering starting a podcast, pinpoint your exact niche. It doesn’t make sense to spend time and effort on a broad podcast topic competing against several existing shows."
Today Culin Tate and Danielle Tate, the creators of Host Coach Show share their story of investing podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
In 2018 Culin Tate was unemployed and at a career crossroads. He really didn’t want to commit to another job that took all of his time and energy away from his family. So, he and his wife decided to invest in Airbnb properties. Using their backgrounds in tech, they cracked the Airbnb algorithm and in less than 5 years they’ve grown a portfolio of 10 short-term rental properties grossing over $1,000,000 annually, while working less than any other jobs in their lives!
This podcast was created to help you do the same - with confidence! Culin and Danielle share their 4 pillars of Airbnb investing, secret strategies, stories, and advice from their journey and other successful investors and innovators in the industry. Together, they’ll show you how to achieve financial freedom through Airbnb investing, so you can feel comfortable in your investments, generate maximum cash flow, and live a life that you love!
Our primary listeners are real estate agents interested in creating cash flow through Airbnb for themselves and their clients. We also have listeners from all walks of life who are looking for ways to great financial freedom through Airbnb investing.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We decided to create the Host Coach Airbnb Investing Podcast because so many people encouraged us to do so. We wanted to reach and help a wider audience. We wrote an Airbnb investing book, Host Coach, and were coaching Airbnb hosts all over the United States - but every time we interacted with new people they would ask if we had a podcast. So, while neither of us consistently listened to podcasts, we took the hint!
The Host Coach Podcast is an extension of our desire to share our God-given talents with the world. Helping others build financial freedom through Airbnb investing brings us joy. We are making the world a better place person by person, investment by investment. Our goal was to create a podcast that helps individuals break through their personal barriers to Airbnb investing and start building wealth immediately. Many of our mentees are using their new-found financial freedom to spend more time with their loved ones and/or volunteer with charities. The ripple effect from those choices creates better families, communities, and eventually a better world for all of us.
Our podcast launched in November of 2023! The original goal was to launch in July, but we were in the midst of renovating a cabin and also realized we wanted to spend more time with our son over the summer. So, we waited until he was back in school to get serious about the podcast. Prior to making our July goal, we took a master class in podcasting to make sure we could create quality content for our listeners and a podcast we were proud to share with the world. If you factor in the master class, it took more than a year to release our first episode, but it was worth the wait to be educated and fully engaged with the podcast.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The Host Coach Show is released every Tuesday! Factoring in research, outlining the episode, recording and editing each episode takes us approximately 4-6 hours. A lot of work goes into making a concise episode that answers a specific question our listeners have to move them forward in their Airbnb investing journey!
As Airbnb investors and coaches, our work days are flexible. We do spend time managing our portfolio of Airbnbs, interacting with guests, and helping our Airbnb coaching clients, but we keep Wednesdays as our “podcast days.” This is the day we record, edit, and create all of the episode’s marketing materials. By having a specific day set in our calendar for the podcast, we ensure that it gets done every week.
We pay the monthly membership fees for Libsyn and Descript. Between these two companies we are able to record, edit, and host our podcast for approximately $40 each month. We also pay an Upwork audio engineer $25 per episode to polish our episode’s sound, add in our intro and outro, and make edits beyond our scope.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The Host Coach Airbnb Podcast has brought us a great deal of joy. We have fun recording episodes together and with guests. Receiving emails and messages about how much an episode has helped a listener makes the entire process worthwhile!
Our podcast is two months old, so we have not taken any sponsors yet. We are excited to be close to hitting 1,000 listens in such a short time period! While we do not have sponsors, the Host Coach Show has created a funnel of new Airbnb coaching clients and Airbnb speaking opportunities. You know you’re making valuable episodes and connections with your listeners when complete strangers reach out to you for help! We also use our show notes to create keyword-rich content for our Airbnb investing blog. This helps more potential Airbnb hosts find our website and learn how we can help them succeed in their investing journey.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Using the Focusrite Scarlett audio interface, Sony MDR7506 professional headphones, and Audio-Technica Cardioid Dynamic microphones has helped us create episodes with high quality sound. Sound quality is so important for podcast listeners. If you sound tinny, far away, or unprofessional it will be difficult to retain and grow your listener base.
Zoom recordings didn’t deliver a high enough sound quality for our podcast, so we tried Squadcast and never looked back! We now record each episode in Squadcast, which ports over to Decript seamlessly for editing. Our audio engineer takes a quick final pass over our edited episodes to make them as smooth and perfect as possible.
Each episode of the Host Coach Airbnb Investing Podcast begins with identifying a specific question we want to answer for our listeners, or the solution to a specific problem they are facing. If an idea for an episode does not offer a solution or answer, it doesn’t get made.
Once we decide on the question or problem the episode is about we create an outline. This outline gives us a loose order to follow, specific tools or software we want to mention, and stories from our own journey, or Airbnb coaching client’s journeys, that illustrate certain points. The outline is how we stay on track and make sure we include what is most valuable to our listeners.
When we interview guests on the Host Coach Show we again start with the question that the guest can answer or the problem that guest can solve for our listeners. We structure a series of questions to help our guests best express the answers and solutions that will help our listeners, while telling their particular Airbnb investing story. Before we schedule a guest interview, we make sure they are onboard and understand the mission of the episode so they can be prepared to deliver value!
► How do you market your show?
Listeners find the Host Coach Airbnb Investing Podcast in a variety of ways. iTunes, Google, the Host Coach website, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter are all great sources of listeners. We also find that we get more listeners when we are guests on other podcasts. So, if someone hears us on a show sharing our journey and how we help individuals create financial freedom through Airbnb investing - it piques their interest and many times they come check out our podcast to find out more!
We are finding that our email campaigns and text campaigns are driving the majority of our listeners. Having a list of fans and followers of the Host Coach Airbnb investing book along with a list of current clients and attendees of conferences we have spoken at has been a valuable resource to the initial success of our podcast. We didn’t have to start from scratch - we were able to market to people who already knew and respected us.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you are considering starting a podcast, pinpoint your exact niche. It doesn’t make sense to spend time and effort on a broad podcast topic competing against several existing shows. Find something unique that you can provide to an audience not yet being served by a podcast. Also, make sure you know what you will get out of your podcast. If you’re only interested in making money - that can be a long time coming and you could burn out before reaching your goal. But, if you’re passionate about helping your listeners and find joy in your podcast topic you can enjoy the process of creating a podcast and building a loyal audience.
If you’re looking for help with your podcast, we love listening to the Grow The Show podcast! It’s full of helpful episodes for podcast hosts trying to grow their podcast audience. They also have a course you can sign up for that comes with coaching. We found this tremendously helpful as we started out.
