Today Kristel Bauer, the creator of Live Greatly shares her story of Self-Improvement podcast.
► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Kristel Bauer and if you would have told me 10 years ago that I would be a podcast host I would have never believed you! I spent many years as a clinician in healthcare before entering into the speaking and media space in 2019 to share my messaging around happiness, leadership, mindset, peak performance and wellness on a wider scale. While practicing as a Physician Assistant in different areas of medicine, including Integrative Psychiatry, and going on to further my education as an Integrative Medicine Fellow, I saw many gaps that needed to be filled in individual’s and companies’ approaches to leadership, mindset, productivity, success and well-being. I noticed that many people who were unhappy or struggling in their work/life were stuck on autopilot, repeating unhelpful patterns that negatively impacted their well-being and happiness as well as their workplaces, their relationships and more. I founded my educational and media wellness platform ‘Live Greatly’ in 2019 to address these common challenges and to provide support, clear solutions and actionable strategies for a powerful positive impact in the workplace and beyond. My self-improvement Podcast series “Live Greatly” sets out to inspire and empower the listeners to take ownership over their happiness, well-being and success in all areas of their work-life. My show is currently in its 5th season and I release two episodes per week. One episode is either a solo episode or an interview where I talk with some of the top minds about happiness, mindset, leadership, wellness & success. I then share my personal insights in a weekly 2 minutes of motivation episode. Some previous guests from my Live Greatly podcast include Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, Camila Alves McConaughey, National Geographic Explorer Joel Sartore and Olympians Gail Devers and Dominique Dawes.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I did not have any experience in the podcasting or the media world when I decided to start my Live Greatly podcast back in 2019 but I did have a message that I really wanted to share! I had made the decision to leave clinical practice in healthcare to enter into the speaking and media space and podcasting was an avenue where I could have a positive impact and build a community while also enhancing my speaking skills. I started planning for my podcast late 2019 and my first episode was not released until 2020. I sought out insights and help from my community to get started and was connected with some other podcasters who gave me guidance and tips which helped along the way. There was a large learning curve in the beginning for sure!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
When I started out with my podcast back in 2020 my episode releases were sporadic; however over time I began releasing one interview per week and I now release two episodes per week. I have paid for support with my podcast editing in the past but I have found that I like to have a part in the editing process so I am currently doing my own editing. As a keynote speaker and author, my podcast helps build brand awareness for my speaking business as well as my upcoming book, Work-Life Tango: Finding Happiness, Harmony and Peak Performance Wherever You Work.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Having a podcast has been an incredible way to build relationships and create a diverse network. This has been very helpful amid the process of writing and marketing my first book, Work-Life Tango: Finding Happiness, Harmony and Peak Performance Wherever You Work which is being released on November 19, 2024. With permission, I included insights and quotes from some of my conversations on my Live Greatly podcast in my book, and many of my guests have also written early blurbs/endorsements for my book as well.

► How does your podcasting process look like?
I have set times each month that I have available to record, which I make available for guests, and I record my episodes via zoom. I then do my editing via Audacity and my podcast is hosted on Libsyn. I take a conversational approach for my show, so I familiarize myself with my guest's background and then I have a general idea of topics I would like to cover. I always close out each episode with the same question which is "Knowing what you know now, what advice, if any, would you have given to yourself from 10 years ago?"
► How do you market your show?
I share on my social media accounts, typically LinkedIn and Instagram. I have also tried some different paid promotions via podcasting platforms.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I would say not to overthink it! You will 100% learn as you go and it will get easier the more you do it. I would also make sure you are clear on why you are creating a podcast and what your goals are with it. That will help you determine the best content to share as well as which audience to target and so much more!
